MAKOLDI Sándor
1945, Velden am Wörther See – 2017, Debrecen, painter, ethnographer
Troughout his life he sought organic junctions in Hungarian culture. In his paintings and writings he researched, interpreted and taught the visual symbols of the universal, and through his art he worked to produce Hungarian art at the vernacular level. His last work was the façade frieze design of the National Institute of Culture in Lakitelek, which was implemented by his daughter, Gizella Túriné Makoldi. His oeuvre forms part of the Debrecen and Tokaj Depositories of Value. In addition to numerous awards, he won the Prize of the Foundation for Hungarian Art in 2010.
