HONTY Márta
1940, Székesfehérvár – 2004, Kaposvár, applied and graphic artist
She completed her art studies between 1958 and 1963 at the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts, where her master was Gyula Hincz. She started participating in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad in 1963. Her life and artistic career were closely linked to her husband, the sculptor István Bors, with whom they were among the foremost members of the generation of artists who settled in Kaposvár in the 1960s and whose influence continues to inspire artists today. Her enamel murals, graphic works and tapestry designs adorn institutions and homes, while her large-scale tapestries and enamel pictures decorate the walls of public institutions. She was awarded the Rippl-Rónai Prize in 1967 and the János Vaszary Prize in 1971. She taught weaving at the Kaposvár Vocational School of Applied Arts from 1989 to 2003. The most important pieces of the couple’s artistic legacy were contributed to the Local Government of Kaposvár by their daughter as a museum deposit.
