KUSTÁR Zsuzsa

She graduated in textile art in 1966 from the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts, where her masters were Pál Gerzson and Margit Szilvitzky. She lived and worked in Nagykanizsa from 1967. She drew her inspiration from the world of folk tales and Hungarian folk tradition. Her multifaceted artistic activity was characterised by a variety of materials and techniques: she made silk batik murals, tapestries, pencil drawings, etchings, lithographs, pastel and oil paintings, as well as stained glass windows, glass mosaic murals, floor mosaics, felt murals and cloisonné enamel works. Her book Reviving Dream Interpretation. A Dictionary of Dreams was published in 1997 and its enlarged edition came out in 2003. It was through the lectures of art historian Gábor Pap that she became closely familiar with the system of symbols in Hungarian folk art, which she organically incorporated into her works. She had more than fifty solo exhibitions.
